Surrogacy is an expensive process and intended parents need to be financially prepared. We recommend you have a minimum of 50k in savings- clinic fees, legal, travel and surrogate expenses add up quickly.
You cannot be paid as a surrogate in Canada under the Assisted Human Reproduction Act.
A surrogate should not suffer any financial loss while in a journey. Reimbursement for pregnancy related expenses are allowed and the average reimbursement ranges from $25,000-35,000 (this includes pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and postpartum)
Common expenses include but are not limited to: telecommunication, legal, groceries, child care/ animal care, snow removal, mileage to appointments, lost wages, medication, life insurance, maternity clothing, counselling etc.
