How to Become a Parent

1. Complimentary Initial Consultation
This no-charge conversation with one of the co-owners who can answer your questions, address your concerns and give you guidance.
2. Help with the Details
We will help you create your secure personal profile; give you access to our education portal; help you with pre-screening; connect you with medical professionals, insurance companies and other professionals you may need, and help you choose the right surrogate.
3. Understand the Legal & Financial Aspects
Surrogacy is a big step in more ways than one. To make sure you make the right steps, we make your legal and financial obligations very clear from the beginning. We can provide guidance and connect you to fertility lawyers who specialize in surrogacy.
4. Get in Touch With Your Surrogate
One of the most important roles we play is facilitating communication between Intended Parents and their Surrogate. We will take time to understand communication expectations and create a communication plan that meets everyone’s needs.
5. Other Considerations
New Hope believes in an open approach to embryo donation, one that celebrates the child’s whole story. Additionally, we advocate for an approach that allows children and parents access to information regarding genetic origins.
Qualifications & Expenses
Intended Parent Qualifications
- Financially stable and able to afford the cost of surrogacy
- Good support system at home
- Do not use illegal drugs or abuse alcohol
- Healthy- physically, emotionally and mentally
- Respect and appreciation for your surrogate and commitment to the process
- Willing to undergo psychological and medical assessments
- Must be able to travel to attend your child’s birth
Expenses & Reimbursements
- Surrogates cannot be paid in Canada under the Assisted Human Reproduction Act.
- A surrogate should not suffer any financial loss while on a journey.
- Reimbursement for pregnancy-related expenses is allowed and the average reimbursement ranges from $25,000-35,000 (this includes pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and postpartum)
